Myopia Management at OMNI Eyecare

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is more than just a vision issue—it’s a progressive condition that can lead to serious eye health risks later in life if left unmanaged.

OMNI Eyecare offers evidence-based solutions tailored to your child’s needs to slow the progression of myopia and protect long-term vision.

The earlier myopia management begins, the greater the impact. Early detection and a proactive treatment plan are critical in safeguarding your child’s vision as they grow.

Why Early Myopia Management Matters

Children’s eyes are constantly developing—and myopia tends to progress rapidly during growth spurts. The earlier we can detect and begin treatment, the more effectively we can slow that progression. Early intervention gives your child the best chance at maintaining healthy eyesight and avoiding high prescriptions in their teen and adult years. Regular eye exams and timely action are key to successful outcomes.

Is Myopia Management Right for Your Child?

If your child has been diagnosed with nearsightedness, it’s important to act early. Regular eye exams and a personalized treatment plan can make a major difference in slowing down the condition and maintaining long-term eye health.

Treatment Options for Myopia Management

We categorize our treatment strategies into three main options to provide a comprehensive approach to slowing the progression of myopia:

1. Lenses

Specialized spectacle lenses are designed to both correct blurry distance vision and control the progression of myopia. These lenses are a great non-invasive option, especially for younger children or those not ready for contact lenses.

  • MiyoSmart® lenses: These lenses use D.I.M.S. (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) technology to help manage myopia while offering everyday visual clarity.
  • Other corrective lenses: We may recommend other designs depending on your child's specific prescription and lifestyle needs.

2. Contact Lenses

Myopia control contact lenses offer freedom from glasses while also working actively to slow eye elongation, a key factor in myopia progression.

  • MiSight® 1 day lenses: The first and only soft contact lens FDA-approved for myopia control in children. Ideal for active kids and daily use.
  • Orthokeratology (Ortho-K): Rigid gas permeable lenses worn overnight that gently reshape the cornea to provide clear vision during the day—no glasses or daytime contacts needed.

3. Drops

Low-dose atropine eye drops are an effective option for children who may not be ready for contact lenses or prefer not to wear them.

  • Atropine drops are administered once daily and have been clinically shown to significantly slow myopia progression with minimal side effects. This treatment is often used in combination with other methods for a customized approach.
